earth has an atmosphere where the overwhelming majority of space debris will be destroyed or significantly ablated to the point where their impact causes negligible or minor damage to the surface.

it would be completely unnecessary for the moon to receive such impacts in an attempt to "protect" earth. if it were sentient, it seems moon-chan would be a bit of a dolt.
