I was waiting to see what will happen with the domain before doing anything and it seems like it was renewed for another year.

I'm not sure if otamin did it or if it was just an automatic renewal, but given the time ota has been already down I would say it's highly unlikely it will come back at this point.

I would like to make a successor site, but would anyone be even willing to post on it if I did?

I actually wanted to get that a while ago but the registrar for .tk collapsed after being sued by Myspace and the TLD has been effectively broken for over 2 years now, you can't register new domains or even renew existing ones.

Anyway, I registered ota-ch.net just now…

Since I'm pretty sure that's not actually installable on current linux distros I assume you would prefer vichan, which I kinda want to avoid, but will probably end up using in the end.
